Astrid and I decided to stretch our legs a bit, so we jumped in the car and drove several hours northwest of Austin to a little state park called Colorado Bend. As usual, it was good to get out. There wasn't much, but we car camped and then went on a short hike (maybe 3-4 miles) the next morning.
We made an appointment with a ranger to take us to a dripping falls in a different part of the park. Here is a interesting cascade swamp/lily-pad area where the feeder stream seems to disperse before it falls off of the cliff:
Here are the falls themselves. There's a story that a couple of teenagers many years ago (maybe in the 1950's or so) took their dad's car for a joyride and accidentally drove right over these falls. They landed in a tree and survived. We actually did see the frame of the car embedded in the mud near the falls!
